We’re reimagining equity to build wealth for all.

Ownership Works is a nonprofit organization that partners with companies and investors to provide all employees with the opportunity to build wealth at work. We’ve seen broad-based employee ownership create meaningful wealth-building opportunities for employees, uplift families, reinvigorate corporate cultures, and improve business performance. Providing all employees with a stake in the value they help create is not just better business and smarter investing, it’s also the right thing to do.

Our Mission

Create $20 Billion of Wealth in 10 Years

More successful companies. More successful employees. That’s why Ownership Works.

Employee ownership can unlock new levels of success for companies and employees, increasing workers' access to and participation in wealth creation. At scale, employee ownership can help low- and moderate- income households and people of color access the single largest source of wealth in America: stock ownership. Through shared ownership programs that support better corporate cultures and returns, we aim to generate at least $20 billion of wealth for workers over the next decade.

The Shared Ownership Roadmap

Shared ownership means giving every employee the opportunity to become an owner who has a stake in their employer’s long-term success. When paired with an “ownership culture” of high engagement and voice, shared ownership creates an alignment of interests that can drive superior company performance and generate greater economic opportunity for workers. In collaboration with our founding partners, Ownership Works helps public and private companies develop, implement, and evaluate holistic broad-based employee ownership programs.

We help companies structure and implement innovative broad-based employee equity plans that align the financial interests of workers and employers and honor the collective effort behind a company’s success.
We help companies and employees realize the full benefits of broad-based equity by building a culture of ownership that aligns an entire workforce around a common purpose, values and goals, and creates work environments where employees feel respected and engaged.
Often in partnership with nonprofit organizations and financial institutions, we help employees understand the equity plan and provide access to personal financial education, coaching, and services to support financial inclusion and resilience.
We partner with companies to develop data-driven, high-impact shared ownership programs and to evaluate the impact of these programs on businesses and employees.
