Executive Director

Anna-Lisa Miller joined Ownership Works in August 2021 and serves as its founding Executive Director. She is responsible for the organization’s strategy, key partnerships, growth, and overall impact.

Anna-Lisa’s career reflects a longstanding commitment to expanding shared ownership, advancing racial equity, and driving systemic change within business, government, and social structures. As an experienced nonprofit leader, she has a proven track record of developing organizations, programs, and partnerships that create social returns for stakeholders and communities.

Previously, Anna-Lisa served as the Development Director at Project Equity, a peer organization that helps local businesses and communities discover the power of employee ownership. Prior to this role, Anna-Lisa served as Chief Operating Officer of The Kohala Center, a Hawaii-based sustainable development organization, where she led teams to success across a diverse portfolio of programs spanning shared ownership to watershed restoration. In that role, she also served on the Executive Committee of the Hawaii Lieutenant Governor’s Farm to School Program, for which she received recognition from the Hawaii State Senate.

Anna-Lisa began her career as a corporate attorney at Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison. She practiced law for five years in New York City, Chicago, and Washington, D.C. in the areas of corporate and public finance. In 2014, she transitioned to the nonprofit sector to pursue her passion for expanding economic opportunity.

Fabian serves as the Business Engagement Director at Ownership Works. In this role, he is responsible for partnering with companies and investors to lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of new shared ownership models.

Fabian is a trusted strategic, financial and operational C-Level advisor with over 18 years of global experience in value strategy, value management, value-based incentive compensation and operations for Fortune 500, private equity firms and their portfolio companies.

With a passion for delivering tangible economic and personal value to clients and team members, Fabian has led more than 50 management consulting projects advising top management teams and boards of directors to improve the value, financial and operational performance of their enterprises in over 20 different countries and across a broad range of industries including Private Equity, Industrial Goods, Consumer Goods, Food and Beverage and Pharmaceutical and Life Sciences.

Fabian has deep experience across multiple functional areas and management processes including:

  • Value strategy: helping clients define and implement strategies for superior value creation
  • Value management: measuring, setting targets, planning, and allocating capital to deliver superior long-term value for all key stakeholders
  • Value-based incentive compensation: Designing and implementing incentive programs that reward value creation and align employee and investor interests
  • Operations: helping clients define and implement operational excellence programs, lean transformations, OEE optimization and waste elimination programs

Before joining Ownership Works, Fabian was a Vice President and a recently promoted Partner with Argo Consulting Private Equity Practice where he led multiple projects to maximize value creation of his clients’ portfolio companies through business transformation and operational excellence programs. Prior to Argo, Fabian was the Head of Latin America at Stern Stewart & Co (a leading value-based management advisory firm) and a Senior Associate at Kearney in New York.

Fabian holds a B.S. in Industrial Engineering, Magna Cum Laude, from Universidad de Los Andes and an M.B.A (Honors) from Columbia Business School.

Fabian presently serves as chairman of the Board of Directors at Colcharter, the market leader in air medical transportation services in Colombia.

Director, Marketing & Communications

Tara serves as the Marketing and Communications Director at Ownership Works. In this role she oversees efforts to leverage the power of data, language and storytelling to support the shared ownership movement and position Ownership Works as a thought leader, convener and change agent for good.

Prior to joining Ownership Works in 2022, Tara spent much of her career at Goldman Sachs where she held roles across the communications, marketing and employee engagement spectrums.

Most recently she was Managing Director and Head of Marketing for the Personal Financial Management Group, which provides financial coaching, literacy and planning services for employees across Corporate America.

Previously, Tara held roles in the Goldman Sachs Executive Office in New York and in London where she led Internal Communications for Europe, the Middle East and Africa. She also led the global communications team for the Corporate Services and Real Estate division.

Over the course of her career Tara has sat on many diversity and professional development committees and is passionate about mentorship. She is a member of the Board of Directors for the Center for Economic Growth serving New York’s Capital Region.

Tara earned a bachelor’s degree in English literature from the State University of New York at Stony Brook.

Director, Talent

Joshua Zigman joined Ownership Works in December of 2021 to lead all talent and related recruiting activities. He is responsible for helping Ownership Works build a world-class team dedicated to advancing the mission of shared ownership and addressing wealth inequality. He has spent the last 15 years advising senior executives on leadership strategy and the talent market.

Prior to joining Ownership Works, Josh spent three and a half years building and leading the Executive Recruiting function at Raytheon Technologies. RTX was created in 2020 via the merger of the Raytheon Company and United Technologies. Josh led all Executive Search engagements, globally, across business unit and function for the $70 billion company, helping RTX attract top talent and advance its diversity, equity, and inclusion goals. Prior to joining RTX, Josh was a Managing Director at Raines International, a retained executive search firm in New York, where he served a variety of corporate, private equity and non-profit clients in their pursuit of new leaders.

Josh holds a BA from Hamilton College and completed the Advanced Program in Executive Search Consulting from Cornell University.

Principal, Financial Inclusion & Resilience

Melissa joined Ownership Works in 2022 and she leads our work on Financial Inclusion and Resilience. In this role, she is responsible for partnering with the private and nonprofit sectors to develop and implement programs that increase employees’ personal financial capability and wellness.

Previously, Melissa was a director at Lion’s Head Global Partners, an investment bank operating across frontier and emerging markets globally. While there, she worked with clients from the public and private sector on projects focused on financial inclusion and women’s economic empowerment.

Prior to joining Lion’s Head, Melissa was an Analyst in Global Policy Development at Soros Fund Management. She managed policy-related projects for the principals of the fund and designed and implemented impact investment strategies. Melissa has also worked at the Open Society Foundations in New York managing grants for African civil society organizations as well as the Council on Foreign Relations, where she did research on conflict, technology, and democracy in Africa.

Melissa holds a master’s degree in international affairs from the New School in New York. She was born in Burundi and spent her childhood in New York City and Quebec. She currently serves on the board of Emerging Public Leaders, a fellowship program that places young professionals in the civil service in Ghana, Kenya and Liberia.

Alex joined Ownership Works in November 2021 to manage partnerships with investors, corporations, and non-profits. Alex's career has focused on roles that apply economics and public policy to address pressing financial and social issues. He has a longstanding belief in shared ownership as a pathway to social prosperity.

Previously, Alex was an associate at TPG on the Y Analytics impact team, where he led social impact assessment of potential investments in the education and healthcare sectors. Prior to that, he was a research assistant at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau where he contributed to economic research and policy initiatives to protect American consumers.

Alex holds an MPA from the Princeton School of Policy and International Affairs and a BA from Washington University in St. Louis.

Michael McHugh joined Ownership Works in November 2021 and focuses on securing the resources needed to bring shared ownership to scale. Michael has been working at mission-driven organizations in New York City for the past 10 years, with a career focus on worker ownership and economic democracy.

He most recently served as the manager for national grants and investments at Project Equity, a nonprofit advancing employee ownership among small businesses. Michael previously worked as a national staffer for a 2020 US presidential campaign and earlier served as the assistant director for the Platform Cooperativism Consortium based at The New School, where he supported the growth of worker-owned platforms in the gig economy. In 2018 he completed graduate studies at The New School for Social Research, earning a high pass with honors, where he was also a Fellow at the Heilbroner Center for Capitalism Studies researching alternative economic models.

Michael began his career working in the executive office of The Posse Foundation, supporting the Chief Operating Officer and leadership team. He earned his bachelor’s degree in sociology with honors from Grinnell College, graduating Phi Beta Kappa. Michael is originally from the Midwest, and enjoys cooking, running, and exploring New York's many great neighborhoods.

Executive Assistant & Office Manager

Charmaine DaCosta is the Executive Assistant and Office Manager at Ownership Works.

Most recently the Executive Assistant to the CPO and the Talent Acquisitions lead at the KIPP Foundation, Charmaine has worn many hats in her storied career. She founded and ran Crude Food Catering, as well as the Limation Limeade brand, which won the Harlem Business Alliance’s 5th Annual Business Plan Competition in 2014 and was sold on shelves in Whole Foods Market, Fresh Direct, and over 150 local stores in New York City and New Jersey.

Charmaine started her professional life as a singer/songwriter and founding member of a reggae girl-group signed to Chaos/Columbia Records and then East/West Records label. With Malik Yoba and her group, DaCosta co-wrote the Jamaica Bobsled Chant for the Cool Runnings movie soundtrack, which went on to earn gold record status.

Charmaine taught for over 8 years as an adjunct professor of business in the subject areas of marketing, business planning, and organizational behavior. She has also taught and directed an ESL program for 3 years.

A woman of diverse skill sets, DaCosta, who is an ordained pastor, is the mission’s director of New Light Baptist Church NYC, where she heads outreach to Haiti, Benin, West Africa, and the music ministry to Spain. A passionate supporter of educational causes, she sits on the board of Triple F. Empowerment, Inc., operators of Ms. Steph’s Science Club.

Charmaine is the mother of two grown daughters, Nia and Jasmine, and holds a BA and MA in English Literature, an MBA in Media Management, and a certificate in Culinary Arts.

Eila M. Matt joined Ownership Works on March 1, 2022 as a UBS Secondee for Operations. Prior to this project, she was the Chief of Staff, Business Manager for the President, Americas and Co-President, Global Wealth Management (GWM) UBS Group AG. Eila has worked at UBS for over 12 years during which time she was a top producer for institutional sales of alternative investments at UBS O’Connor.

Eila remains a Dispute Resolution Arbitrator for FINRA, the securities industry regulator, and holds the following FINRA licenses: Series 3 National Commodities Futures, 7 Securities Representative, 24 Securities Principal, 63 Securities Agent State Law and 99 Operations Professional. Her previous positions include equity trading, foreign exchange sales, asset raising/client servicing for hedge funds and Chief Operating Officer (COO) Global Distribution and Sales at Credit Suisse Asset Management.

Eila holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Finance with a minor in Economics from her hometown school, the University of Delaware.
